Ngong Ping 360 Cable Car: The Best Way to Go to Ngong Ping
Ngong Ping is a popular destination on Lantau Island, often compared to Hong Kong Disneyland as a top day trip from the city. While there are multiple ways to get there, the most scenic option is via the Ngong Ping 360 cable car.
With panoramic views — and even glass-bottom cabins — the ride itself becomes part of the experience.
How to Go to Ngong Ping 360 Cable Car Terminal
The easiest way to reach the cable car is via MTR. Taking my experience as the sample route, here's how I reached Ngong Ping 360 Cable Car Terminal from Tsim Sha Tsui:
- Take the Tsuen Wan Line towards Central
- Walk to Hong Kong Station and transfer to the Tung Chung Line
- Get off at Tung Chung Station
- Exit and walk around for 5 minutes to the cable car terminal
If you want a simplified general direction, you may use the following:
- Take the MTR to Tung Chung Station
- Use Exit B
- Walk for about 500 meters to the Cable Car Terminal
This is the main starting point for the Ngong Ping 360 ride.
How to Go Back to the City
After exploring Ngong Ping Village, it's a straightforward process as follows:
- Return to the same cable car station
- Use your return ticket
- Ride back to Tung Chung
- Take the MTR back to the city

Ticket Prices & Options
Ticket prices vary depending on:
- Directions: One Way or Round Trip
- Cabin Type: Standard Cabin, Crystal Cabin (glass-bottom), or Mixed (Crystal one way, Standard the other)
- Add-Ons: Depending on the available package, but usually meal vouchers, transport packages, eSim packages

During my October 2019 trip, I booked a round-trip mixed cabin (glass bottom going up, standard going down) for around AED 111 (~$30).
My Cable Car Experience
Compared to my cable car experience in Tbilisi, this one felt smooth and well-organized. From picking up my pre-booked tickets to queueing and boarding, everything flowed efficiently — no confusion, no chaos.

Riding the Crystal Cabin gave me slight butterflies, but the views made it absolutely worth it.
During the ride, I was able to see:
- Lush mountains of Lantau Island
- The turquoise waters of the Pearl River
- The impressive Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau Bridge in the distance
It’s one of those experiences where the journey is just as exciting as the destination. I thought I had already seen enough scenic views from my hikes around Hong Kong Island, but I was completely wrong. I just couldn’t get enough of that vibrant turquoise color surrounding the island — it was simply stunning.

⚠️ Tips Before You Ride Ngong Ping 360
- Book tickets in advance to skip queues
- Visit early to avoid crowds
- Choose Crystal Cabin at least one way for the experience
- Check the weather — views are best on clear days
Final Thoughts:
If you’re hesitating to include Ngong Ping in your itinerary, don’t. The cable car ride alone is already a highlight, and it offers a completely different perspective of Hong Kong beyond the city skyline.
